Desktop Control Basics for Edify

In desktop mode, you can move around the virtual environment using your mouse and keyboard.

Navigating A Lesson In Desktop

When you enter a lesson, you can 'look around' the environment by moving the mouse. To unlock the mouse cursor and interact with options on the screen, press either CTRL or SHIFT. To lock the cursor again and return to looking around the environment, press either button again.

To walk around the environment (where applicable), use either the arrow keys or the WASD keys (to move forward, left, back, and right respectively). To fly up and down use Q and E or Numpad 7 and Numpad 1.  

Hotkeys

The controls can be viewed under the hotkeys tab. As described above, W,A,S,D and the arrow keys move around and Q and E move vertically up or down. L focuses a currently broadcasting static camera on a selected object. M focuses and zooms the camera on the selected object. - and + push and pull a selected object towards and away from the user. Ctrl+Z will undo the last function and Ctrl+Y will redo the last undo. Ctrl or Shift will lock and unlock the cursor.

Interacting with Objects In Desktop

To select an object in an environment, click on it with the left mouse button. Corners will appear around the object. These can be clicked and dragged inward or outward to scale the object.  

Clicking and holding left mouse button on an object will move the object along the X and Z axis in the direction you drag the mouse.  

Clicking and dragging both left and right mouse button will move the object up and down. Clicking and dragging right mouse button will rotate the object. Clicking right mouse button will open the object’s context menu for further options and functions.

The desktop sidebar provides a way to quickly access the tools for creating and delivering lessons. The options include:

  • Broadcast
  • Tools
  • Scenes
  • Environments
  • Hotkeys
  • Summon Lectern

Accessing the Context Menu

To launch the context menu, hover over an object and click right mouse button. This provides access to your object-specific tools including:

  • Operations
  • Duplicate Model
  • Remove Model
  • Layers
  • Slice
  • Auto-Frame

Accessing The Edify Board Menu

To reveal the edify board context menu, click on the box with the 3 dots. This will open up the menu with a variety of 2D content-specific tools, such as:

  • Whiteboard tools
  • Open Media
  • Conference
  • Auto-Frame
  • Duplicate Screen

Incremental Object Movement

Objects can be moved incrementally using keys for more finite movement control. U and O rotate in the Z-axis, J and L rotate the Y-axis and I and K rotate the X-axis.

To scale an object up or down, use N and M.
