Since the beginning, Edify has been about learning without limits. So why be limited by geography? Edify’s Work from Anywhere policy has made Edify a truly global enterprise, with Edifiers contributing not just from HQs in Glasgow, Scotland and Dubai, UAE, but from around the world.  

This means that Edify can recruit from the best talent globally – not just from the much smaller pool of people who live a commutable distance from the office.  

Working with a global team entails working with colleagues in vastly different time zones – a co-worker working in the UK’s morning is a team member in Manila’s evening. Working with Edifiers on the other side of the world from one another means working asynchronously.  

But how does it work in practise? Here are few tips:

Tip #1: Work smarter, not longer.

We focus less on the hours that Edifiers sit at a desk and more on the tasks that need doing and the tasks that they get done. What works for us is Colleagues coordinate with one another through a team meeting at the start of each week, where they discuss the tasks for the upcoming week and set deadlines and priorities, and through daily check-ins for specific projects.  

Tip #2: Make tech work for you.  

We use a suite of communication and project management tools that integrate with and talk to one another. As a whole, Edify communicates via Microsoft Teams, and uses shared productivity tools to organise projects  – for example, the marketing team uses Monday.com to manage everything from large-scale campaigns to individual social media posts.

Tip #3: Work-life balance.  

It’s important to have downtime: beyond using Teams to talk about all things work, we have channels for chatting about books and plants and pets. Oh, and don’t forget Edify’s Games Nights!

One major benefit of working this way is that Edifiers can – within reason – arrange their work with Edify around their lives, rather than the other way around. Edify’s Director of Business Operations, Wendy Mendoza, says “Working in a time zone favourable to everyone’s convenience and flexible to any time zone leads to a better feeling of productivity both at work and in your personal life... sounds like a gratifying work-life balance!”
