3D Model Import and Interaction

To add your models to your lesson, go to your local files and search within your folders. There are a number of supported file formats. The full list of which can be found in the knowledge base.

Our Sketchfab integration allows you to directly access the free files that are available on sketch Fab's, web site, from within edify. To use, go to import sketch fab, and then log in with your free sketch fab account .

To interact with a model on desktop, start by opening the object panel from the left side of the menu, and then click on the object that you wish to put into the scene. You can then move the mouse around to choose the location you would like to place the object. Before placing the object, you can adjust the scale and rotation by using the relevant hotkeys, which can be found on the right hand side of the home menu under the question mark icon.

In VR, open up the home menu on your wrist, and then select the objects and way points panel, then hit place on the model you wish to add. You can move the thumbs stick up or down to scale and left or right to rotate the object.

Build your scene out by placing multiple models inside an environment.

Slice and Layers

The slice and layers options in the context menu give you complex interactions with the models you have added into the scene. When you have placed a model into the scene, select it with the trigger in VR or left click in desktop and the context menu will appear attached to the controller or at the top right of your screen. The slice option gives you the ability to see inside a model. Manipulating the sliders will cut the view at different points along the axis.

The layers tool gives you control over the individual components of the model and you can choose to highlight, hide or make the component translucent. You can apply this to as many of the components as you wish, or apply it to the full model.

For the best experience, it is important to consider consolidating and organising your component hierarchy of the model when you are modelling it in a 3D CAD software.

DICOM Viewer

DICOM or digital imaging and communications in medicine files can also be imported into Edify the same way as you would any other local file . Simply select From Local in the lesson creation screen and locate your file on your PC.

When you have loaded into the lesson, open up the object panel and locate the DICOM file and place inside the scene. It may take a few minutes to load. Once inside, you can select the model and then move the sliders or select an axis view. You can also switch to opaque mode or flip the model.
